ABOUTThe Essentials of Hazardous Materials Management (EHMM) course was created for the specific educational needs of environmental, health, safety and security (EHS&S) professionals. The course helps those new to the profession quickly build a solid foundation for their career in EHS&S while serving more seasoned professionals as a comprehensive refresher course that can also bring them up to speed on new areas that may have been added to their job responsibilities. The EHMM course is also a great tool to prepare for the Certified Hazardous Materials Manager® (CHMM®) designation examination. TOPICS COVERED

COURSE MATERIALSParticipants taking the course will receive an extensive course manual and the AHMP Hazardous Materials Management Desk Reference, where specified. These materials will assist participants in preparing for the CHMM® national examination to help them perform their job duties and responsibilities. WHO SHOULD ATTENDExperienced individuals such as technicians, engineers, scientists, facility supervisors and managers, and or regulators, who have assigned duties or responsibilities related to management of hazardous materials and environmental, health and safety (EHS) issues. COURSE PREREQUISITESWhile targeted for experienced professionals and technicians, there are no prerequisites for taking this training course. EXAMINATION PREREQUISITESThe eligibility requirements for each IHMM certification can be found on the IHMM website. (Link is external) Eligibility to sit for an exam, and the level of certification, are determined by the candidate's education and experience. All successful candidates must sign a Code of Ethics before certification. Candidates for CHMM certification must have a baccalaureate degree (or higher) from an accredited college or university, have a specified minimum professional experience, and pass a professional multiple-choice examination developed and administered by the IHMM. COURSE REGISTRATION AND COSTThe deadline for in-person course registration depends on the course sponsor. Contact the specific course sponsor for further information and to request the registration form. Important: If a sufficient number of course registrations are not received by the application deadline, the course is subject to rescheduling or cancellation. Details vary by location and sponsor. Interested parties should contact the overview course sponsor in their region or call the national AHMP office for further assistance. Please be advised that IHMM charges all individuals an annual certification maintenance fee upon successfully passing the examination. CONTINUING EDUCATION UNITSThe EHMM course meets the criteria for the nationally accepted Continuing Education Units (CEU). Contact the course sponsor for additional information regarding contact hours and CEUs. Continuing Education Credits—Some EHMM courses provide CEUs. (See the particular course sponsor for details.) EXAMINATION APPLICATIONAll candidates for the examination must file an application with IHMM. This course provides instruction on laws and regulations as well as technologies and practices in an overview fashion that highlights and emphasizes what is important for a hazardous materials manager to know and provides essential information for the hazardous materials manager to better conduct his/her job. |
