Message from the Board of Directors
Spring is a time of renewal and growth where seeds of the past spring to life growing into something new. That makes it an excellent time to reflect on your 2024 accomplishments and consider applying for professional recognition through the AHMP awards program. These awards highlight your dedication and expertise in protecting people, property and the environment from hazardous materials and in advancing professionalism in the hazmat field. Submitting a nomination, whether for yourself, your AHMP Chapter, or a deserving colleague, can boost morale, enhance professional standing, and inspire others in the field. Awards will be presented in special ceremony at the AHMP EHS Hazmat Summit in Louisville, KY, in September..

IHMM News
The Distinguished Service Recognition Award is available to any member who meets the criteria laid out on the AHMP website. Many members find themselves eligible for this distinction simply by doing their job well. Similarly, the Distinguished Chapter Recognition Award is achievable by any truly active Chapter.
Other competitive awards are available to recognize special contributions, such as Hazmat Professional of the Year, Young Hazmat Professional of the Year, and the most prestigious Pete Cook Founder's Award. Competitive awards for Chapters include the Communication Program of the Year and the Al Arnofsky Chapter of the Year. Check out all the awards available on the AHMP website and get the recognition you deserve for your professional accomplishments!
Another way to advance your reputation and your career is to speak at the Hazmat Summit — submit an abstract on the AHMP website. Not only do speakers get to showcase their knowledge to their peers and add public speaking to their resumes, they also earn certification maintenance points and receive a 30% discount on your Hazmat Summit attendance.
But both of these opportunities, like Spring itself, are passing. So you’ll need to act now. Award applications must be submitted by April 30. Abstracts for speaking must be submitted by May 2.
The one thing that’s not passing is that your Board is here to serve you, our members. If you have questions about any of the above or if you have any ideas for program or are interested in becoming more involved in AHMP committee work or other activities, please reach out to any of us.
We look forward to seeing you in person in September in Louisville!

Webinar: Inspection Requirements for Fire Water Tanks
Tuesday, May 20, 2025 3:00 AM - 4:00 PM EDT
If your municipal water supply lacks the required pressure for fire protection, your insurance company may require installation of a fire pump and water storage tank. Insurance companies and local fire departments require maintenance and periodic inspections of the tanks. In this presentation, TTI Environmental staff will break down the guidelines and regulations that apply to firewater systems and how to conform to the requirements. We’ll also discuss inspection methods, including those that do not require taking the tanks out of service. Performing inspections reduces risk, may save on insurance premiums, and helps avoid fire department violations and fines.
Speaker: Patricia B Stock, TTI Environmental
Ms. Stock currently manages TTI’s aboveground storage tank inspectors and technicians, along with their support staff. She provides technical expertise with pressure vessel calculations and standards interpretation related to mechanical integrity. She provides regulatory assistance to clients related to release prevention techniques and asset management to achieve compliance. She is an expert in EHS management and compliance with 30 years of experience. Ms. Stock clients are from academic, federal, municipal, and industry sectors.

AHMP Chapters now have access to a professionally designed membership brochure to help attract new members and highlight the benefits of AHMP. This brochure provides key information about AHMP’s mission, professional development opportunities, networking benefits, and the value of being part of a nationwide community of hazardous materials professionals.
The chapter version of the membership brochure includes a designated blank space where local chapters can add their own information, such as their logo, contact details, and other relevant chapter-specific content.
Chapters can use the brochure at events, meetings, and outreach efforts to engage potential members and showcase the advantages of AHMP membership.

Tomorrow’s Workforce Coalition Surpasses 900 Member Organizations
The Tomorrow’s Workforce Coalition, led by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), and the Professional Certification Coalition (PCC), and on which IHMM is a member of the TWC Steering Committee, recently surpassed 900 member organizations that represent more than 50 different industries across the country.
The Tomorrow’s Workforce Coalition supports the bipartisan, bicameral Freedom to Invest in Tomorrow’s Workforce Act (S. 756 / H.R. 1151), which would expand qualified expenses under 529 savings plans to include postsecondary training and credentialing, such as licenses and nongovernmental certifications; it would provide valuable tax-advantaged resources to more workers pursuing career growth, mid-career changes or alternative career pathways.
